Orthogonal polynomials of the R-linear generalized minimal residual method

چکیده
The speed of convergence of the R-linear GMRES method is bounded in terms of a polynomial approximation problem on a finite subset of the spectrum. This result resembles the classical GMRES convergence estimate except that the matrix involved is assumed to be condiagonalizable. The bounds obtained are applicable to the CSYM method, in which case they are sharp. Then a new three term recurrence for generating a family of orthogonal polynomials is shown to exist, yielding a natural link with complex symmetric Jacobi matrices. This shows that a mathematical framework analogous to the one appearing with the Hermitian Lanczos method exists in the complex symmetric case. The probability of being condiagonalizable is estimated with random matrices. c ⃝ 2012 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

On the roots of the orthogonal polynomials and residual polynomials associated with a conjugate gradient method
In this paper we explore two sets of polynomials, the orthogonal polynomi-als and the residual polynomials, associated with a preconditioned conjugate gradient iteration for the solution of the linear system Ax = b. In the context of preconditioning by the matrix C, we show that the roots of the orthogonal polynomials, also known as generalized Ritz values, are the eigenvalues of an orthogonal ...
متن کاملConvergence of Cg and Gmres on a Tridiagonal Toeplitz Linear System
The Conjugate Gradient method (CG), the Minimal Residual method (MINRES), or more generally, the Generalized Minimal Residual method (GMRES) are widely used to solve a linear system Ax = b. The choice of a method depends on A’s symmetry property and/or definiteness), and MINRES is really just a special case of GMRES. This paper establishes error bounds on and sometimes exact expressions for res...
متن کاملPreconditioned Generalized Minimal Residual Method for Solving Fractional Advection-Diffusion Equation
Introduction Fractional differential equations (FDEs) have attracted much attention and have been widely used in the fields of finance, physics, image processing, and biology, etc. It is not always possible to find an analytical solution for such equations. The approximate solution or numerical scheme may be a good approach, particularly, the schemes in numerical linear algebra for solving ...

We discuss a general framework for generalized conjugate gradient methods, that is, iterative methods (for solving linear systems) that are based on generating residuals that are formally orthogonal to each other with respect to some true or formal inner product. This includes methods that generate residuals that are minimal with respect to some norm based on an inner product. A similar, even m...
